In July of 2002 AMD Corporation introduced its Alchemy™ Solutions Am1772™ Wireless LAN Chipset consisting of the AM1770™ (wireless Zero-IF, 2.4GHz DSSS transceiver) and the AM1771™ (Integrated Baseband/MAC), which requires no external SRAM or Flash, has a PCI and CardBus interface, Onchip MAC hardware acceleration to ease CPU load, channel equalizer, and full support of IEEE 802.11b standard

The chipset is designed to operate in the ISM-band (2400 MHz - 2484 MHz)with support for Linux and sadly, all the popular flavors of Windows. The 1772 chipset provides WEP security
