NSF seeks advanced research proposals in innovative electrical, micro-, nano-, bio-electronic, and photonic technologies. Applications of these technologies can range widely in telecommunications, computation, quantum information and communications, detection and sensing systems, scientific and industrial instrumentation, microelectronics manufacturing, and control systems.

Proposal Preparation

1. Grant Proposal Guide

   Chapter II of this document is quite useful:

2. The document Phase I Fastlane Requirements (http://www.eng.nsf.gov/sbir/ph1_-_sub_req.htm) has an easy to follow table format

3. Phase I Proposal Prep (http://www.eng.nsf.gov/sbir/phase_i_-_prop.htm) has a textual step by step guide.

4. Make special note of the document FastLan.A1Proj1Text (http://www.eng.nsf.gov/sbir/stop.htm) which states the following:

   1. Project Summary shall have the following sections:

   A.  A 200 word technical summary
   B.  A 200 word commercial applications summary
   C.  A listing of key words
   D.  Topic Name and Subtopic designation
   E.  A statement concerning both NSF Review Criteria

   The relevant item is "B" above as this is the only place that it stipulates that the commercial applications summary should be limited to 200 words.
